# Basic Concept

At its core, an AI agent is a piece of software programmed to perform certain tasks autonomously. These tasks could range from simple operations like setting a reminder, to more complex functions like analyzing large data sets or making trading decisions on a blockchain. The key aspect of AI agents is their ability to act independently, without needing supervision, continuous guidance or intervention from humans.
